« Je l'aimais, il m'aimait aussi... »

‘I Loved Him and He Loved Me.’

Élisabeth Geblesco’s diary provides an eloquent example of the risk of an asymmetric relationship being established in control analysis, whereby one partner has a vital need for what the other brings them, but without any real reciprocity existing between the two. When the analysand idealises their analyst and the analysis to such an extent that he or she becomes transfixed in a fascinated contemplation of self, then they run the risk of becoming hostage to a theory which has become an ideology, a process which essentially aims at reducing identification conflicts to a maximum. ‘Working transference’ in particular favours the preservation of the passional transference which emerges through the idealisation of a idea or theory.
